After completing this exercise, students will be able to:
· Identify a mineral by using a hardness identification chart
· Discuss what kind of minerals are common to his/her area.
Overview
In this assignment, you will begin reading and watching videos on types of minerals and how they are identified. After finding/purchasing minerals for yourself, you will follow the same steps to identify your minerals.
Instructions
Take some minerals from the kit you’ve received. If you don’t have a mineral collection or kit, start now. Find some different minerals outside or inside. This may require an adult to help you if you have to leave the yard. A hobby shop or tourist gift shop is often a good place to ask for mineral samples.
Use the hardness and scratch tests to identify the minerals. Take a picture, make a video or sketch of the minerals and your findings. Complete this for at least one two minerals. Create a Word document, PowerPoint or other presentation model for your work.
To submit your assignment to your teacher, save your work and name in the following manner:

Submit your finished work to the assignment 3 link in the Submissions area of Blackboard before the last day of Module 2.
